Here are some pics from 11/7 while we were in Grand Isle, VT (before our show in Burlington) taking in some sights on the "American" side of the Canadian border.

Lake Champlain, Vermont

We were this close to Canada. Seriously. We went to the border and there was one guy guarding like a five mile stretch. Can you imagine if we had been deranged?

It's hard to believe, but it's been a solid month on tour. We're all ready to kill each other. Well, not really. But if Jacob winks at me one more time...

There's been so much to see and do in a short amount of time. We've met some wonderful people and some very strange people. If you're reading this, you know who you are.

We're finishing up the Northeast leg of the trip without too many nicks and scrapes. We're in Ohio tomorrow, which I'm told 'rocks,' and looping up through Michigan after that before finishing in Champaign next Friday night.

I don't think any of us will be the same after this tour. It's taken a lot out of us but it's been extremely rewarding.

Montpelier, Vermont

Trying to get on the internet the last few days has been tricky. Rest assured that we are still alive! We played three shockingly good shows in New York and Boston this weekend. The first night, Brooklyn, the second Manhattan - both great shows! We got a good reception and played with some amazing musicians. Last night in Boston was one of the biggest crowds on the tour thus far.

We've been pleasantly surprised with the reception but we still have a long home stretch in front of us. We'll try to put some pictures up this week.

Washington D.C.

Playing a show in Arlington, Virginia afforded us the chance to visit our nation's capital. Which is what touring is all about, after all.

This was our first time in the capital (only Heather had been before). It's striking to see what has always been just a series of postcard images in my head become a physical place you can conceptualize.

First of all, if you're going to hit all the big monuments on the mall, be ready (b-rady) to walk. I don't think you can condense it to under a five mile walk. It's impressive.

What I loved most was the Lincoln Memorial. If you'll allow my gushing, walking up to it along the reflecting pool is something of a spiritual experience. Except for the duck poop. That was really unfortunate.

When you finally reach the Big Guy, it's amazing how scruffy he looks. He's got wrinkled clothes and messy hair and a few cobwebs hanging off his ears. I think that's why so many people come here and ask him questions. He's a lot more approachable than Jefferson, who's just kind of hanging out on his own, less popular, island.

Halloween is here at last, and it gives us a chance to pause and reflect on the true meaning of the season. Having roughly 24 hours to make a 1.5 hour drive to D.C., we decided to get off the beaten path and explore the backwoods of Virginia. We came across a little rest area in the Shenandoah Valley. This little hollow was incredibly beautiful, but strangely vacant. Luckily enough, as there was nobody to enforce the No Dog rule.

We got some great pictures here, some of which we'll put up on our website and Myspace.

Augusta, Georgia

Having trekked through Florida without losing anything major, and surviving a string of small-turnout shows, we turn fearlessly towards the East Coast and New England. We're taking our last proper day off with friend and impeccable host Rob Quinton, who put us up in his apartment and gave us toothbrushes and coffee mugs. Plus a couple of really good games of Catan. This little stop has really been one of the highlights of the tour so far.

The last two shows, despite turnout, have been very encouraging as far as performance and the response from the few people that were there. Particularly, we played in Charleston, South Carolina last night, at a place called Cumberland's. The food was amazing and free (thanks to Greg for that) and the sound was incredible. Apparently Mike, Cumberland's sound guy, is better known as one of the sound engineers from U2's ZOO TV tour. It was weird being miked by the same guy who's miked Larry Mullen. Junior. The sound check, for me, was the most nerve-wracking part of the show.

We're off to Greenville, North Carolina tomorrow. We're past the halfway point and looking forward to a solid string of dates in the Northeast.

Good evening from Chattanooga, TN, home of the Chattanooga Choo-Choo, which we visited today on our day off. It has come to our attention that our pictures of this tour make us look like we are tourists on a vacation visiting popular American attractions. While there is some truth to this statement, I would just like to point out that touring is first and foremost a lot of work and we try to enjoy ourselves when we get a day off. So with that, here's some beautiful scenic shots of the Tennessee countryside.

As it turns out, our dog is a hipster. Is this a bad thing?

Yesterday we played a show at the Bluebird in Saint Louis. All in all, not a bad show, apart from some funky acoustics. You never can account for that sort of thing.

Driving through the rolling hills of northwestern Kentucky with some scattered thunderclouds and a setting sun is a remarkable thing. It was incredibly beautiful. The best part of touring isn't always the shows.

Bluffton, Indiana

Hey all,

Just a short update here. We're taking a day off in scenic Bluffton, Indiana, on our way to Dayton tomorrow. We have it very cushy at Nic's aunt's house here. Today we sat in the hot tub for about three hours and discussed America's moral and economic challenges, while Sadie sat around, painfully separated from the family chinchilla by a little fence.

Tomorrow we'll be driving to Dayton, and after that St. Louis by way of Champaign. The next 48 hours will be rough. We'll have updates for you again soon, though, and once again, thanks to everyone who has made this tour so great so far!

Picture update! We're coming to you from Chicago, IL, USA and we're waiting to load in to Silvie's Lounge, our venue this evening. We had such a busy weekend that we haven't had time to update our b-log; but here we are now yadda yadda yadda.

Here's a short video update we filmed from inside our van while traveling to Oshkosh, WI on Sunday.

Sarah got carded on our way into the Mall of America while we were in Minneapolis on Saturday; you have to be atleast 16 or accompanied by an adult after 4PM and she, is in fact, quite a bit older than that.

Hello again from the Land of 10,000 Lakes or the Gopher State,

Last night we played a very cozy show at Racy's Cafe in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. We couldn't stop talking about what a great little venue this was - we were fed well and the sound was excellent. Thanks to Mike for putting on a great show; though small, we met some great people. Those kind of shows are always fun.

It was great to take showers this morning.

Aloha from the Badger State!

As you can see, Nic is a morning person. And it drives the rest of us nuts.

We played last night at the Busted Lift in Dubuque, IA and then stayed at our friend Aaron's house. Here's a video of Jacob, Sarah and Nic doing "Bless Our Burning Heart."

Hey everybody!

Yesterday was the first show of our fall tour, at Grinnell College in Iowa. We had about a seven hour drive from Champaign to Grinnell, but we broke it up with an overnight stay at Jacob's.

This is Bob's Underground Cafe, a peculiar little coffee bar with some very interesting people. The show was put on by some really nice people: Josh, Emily, Mac and a few others whose names I can't remember (sorry!). The sound was good but best of all, there were copious amounts of food. I wish I had taken a picture of the spread - it was really fantastic. I highly recommend playing a show here; they take great care of you.

Iowa has been showing us some traditional Midwestern hospitality. We've had it easy these first few days! Thanks and love to everyone so far who has made this so cushy!
